Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation
- You may not have anything to eat or drink (including water) for six (6) hours prior to the appointment. TO DO SO MAY BE LIFE THREATENING AND RESULT IN CANCELLATION OF YOUR SURGERY. However, it is important that you take any scheduled medications (blood pressure, antibiotics, etc.) or any prescription that we may have provided for premedication, using only a small sip of water no later than 2 hours before surgery.
- No smoking (including tobacco and cannabis) at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior to the day of surgery.
- A responsible adult must accompany the patient to the office and drive the patient home. Commercial transportation may not be used to take you home after surgery.
- The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
- Please wear loose fitting clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow and low-heeled, comfortable shoes. If you have long hair, please bring or wear a hair band.
- Contact lenses, jewelry, and dentures must be removed at the time of surgery.
- Do not wear lipstick, excessive makeup, or nail polish on the day of surgery.
- If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office to determine if it is desirable for you to postpone your appointment.
- If you wear contact lenses, bring your case with you for proper storage.
- Plan to rest the remainder of the day.
- Please remember to be on time for your surgery appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will be asked to reschedule your appointment.
